PHS303 Fundamentals of Physiotherapy Clinical Experience (4)

Abstract:

This subject will develop students ability to learn through experience of clinical practice. Students will learn to transfer knowledge from theory to clinical practice, to undertake reflection and self-appraisal while in the clinical setting, and to critique the knowledge acquired through clinical experience. Students will apply skills of clinical reasoning and professional behaviour. Students enrolling in this subject will be expected to have a comprehensive level of knowledge and practical skills in cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, neurological and paediatric physiotherapy practice.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

Be able to:
List the requirements of the Australian Standards of Physiotherapy
Operate in a physiotherapy clinical setting within their own role and according to responsibilities
Implement sound clinical reasoning processes in the clinical setting to provide safe and effective physiotherapy interventions
Demonstrate the ability to accurately self-appraise performance in clinical practice settings
Critically appraise knowledge obtained in the clinical setting
Describe the contribution of clinical experience to their body of professional knowledge.
Modify their clinical practice in response to feedback and accurate self-appraisal.

Requirements for achievement of the Australian standards for physiotherapy (APC 2006) Reflective practice in action and on-action Developing accurate self-appraisal skills Clinical reasoning Critical application and appraisal of knowledge in the clinical setting
