PHS423 Physiotherapy Clinical Practice (16)

Duration: Two sessions

Abstract:

In this subject students will undertake periods of clinical practice in a physiotherapy workplace to demonstrate their skills and abilities in client assessment, clinical reasoning, intervention planning, implementation and evaluation. Students will complete a total 20 weeks of placement throughout the year at the equivalent of a full-time position (approx 38 hours per week).  Students will develop skills in being able to articulate and illustrate their competency using verbal and written forms. At the completion of this subject students will have the skills to work as an entry-level physiotherapist in clinical settings. The clinical placement will have components related to cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, rehabilitation and paediatrics. Students will be required to work in a professional manner and where possible contribute to their unit. On completion of this subject students will have been assessed for their final level of competency.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) students only

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

-Be able to perform the duties required of an entry level physiotherapist (Australian Standards for Physiotherapy 2006).
- Be able to effectively integrate skills in assessment, clinical reasoning, planning and implementation of physiotherapy intervention in the management of a client's condition.
- Be able to safely and effectively perform physiotherapy intervention in the clinical setting.
- Be able to articulate and illustrate their achievement of competency and the CSU graduate attributes

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

- students will complete clinical placements in which they will progressively develop and achieve entry-level as outlined in the Australian Standards for physiotherapy (2006) document
- job interview techniques
- portfolio development
