Abstract:
This subject exposes students to a diverse scope of photographic genres, and encourages investigation into various professional photographic endeavours. Students conduct a practical and theoretical analysis of a key selection of these genres and produce a portfolio of photographic work based on their research.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be familiar with an extensive range of photographic genres
- be able to apply technical knowledge and skills acquired in previous subjects to the pursuit of original and creative investigations of various aspects of applied photographic practice
- be able to demonstrate substantial research that directly underpins and informs practical work produced
- be able to demonstrate an ability to contextualise their own aspirations and endeavours within applied photographic practice
- be able to contribute constructively and effectively to an ongoing critical analysis of work presented by themselves and fellow students to the group critique
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Survey of practical and theoretical aspects of a broad range of photographic genres - Development of a portfolio of creative photographic work exploring a selection of photographic genres and industry practice aligned to each student's career aspirations - Advanced photographic techniques specific to a selection of key photographic genres - The nexus of professional photographic practice and related industries - The principles of concept development and research methodologies pertinent to the production of a cohesive body of photographic work - Ethical issues and photography
