Continuing students should consult the SAL for current offering details: PHY100
Where differences exist between the Handbook and the SAL, the SAL should be taken as containing the correct subject offering details.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of forces, matter, energy, physical quantities and SI units
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of internal energy, temperature, heat and mechanisms of heat transfer
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of electirc charge, electric forces and fields, electric potential and capacitance
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of DC and AC electricity
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of magnetism and electromagnetism
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of atomic physics
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of semiconductors and solid state devices
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of light and electromagnetic radiation
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of X-ray and gamma ray interaction with matter and tissue
- Be able to solve problems of a conceptual and quantitative nature in the above areas of medical radiation physics
- Be able to conduct relevant experiments and write scientific experimental reports, relating relevant physical theory to the observed phenomena; then draw relevant conclusions and deductions from the observed results, using the experimental errors present.
