CSU Discipline Area: Environmental Planning and Management (ENVPL)

Abstract:
To be an effective environmental manager you need good planning skills. Environmental planning builds on your existing knowledge of natural resource management tol give you these skills and understanding of different planning approaches, principles and tools for the job. It is designed to give students a broad appreciation of environmental planning whilst developing skills to write management plans. Particular attention is given to establishing management objectives, and generating and evaluating options to solve management problems. It is assumed students have a basic understanding of social science. The subject contains a total estimated workload of 140 hours.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
be able to:
- describe and discuss the range of possible approaches to environmental planning;
- apply the principles, processes and methods of land use and management planning;
- select appropriate tools and methods to deal with these issues;
- critically analyse management plans;
- write a basic area management plan;
- conduct basic evaluation exercises related to the planning of natural areas; and
- describe the range and complexity of issues associated with the planning for natural resources.
