Abstract:
Ever wondered how environmental policies are developed, implemented and evaluated? Or maybe you are a player in the policy process and need to understand it better? Environmental policy explores the nature of policy development and implementation and the cultural, environmental, political, legal and ethical issues that can influence the process. The subject provides an understanding of the policy making process, policy instruments and the skills necessary to analyse policies related to environmental management.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
be able to:
- describe the nature of environmental policy;
- describe the roles of key institutions and stakeholders involved with environmental policy;
- explain international, federal and state policy processes;
- describe the major directions in Australian environmental policy;
- identify some of the methods available to evaluate public policy;
- analyse policy and offer views on its effectiveness;
- explain the range of policy instruments available to address environmental problems; and

describe how environmental policy relates to other areas of public policy

2. Environmental institutions
3. Policy instruments and evaluation methods
