PPP105 Investigation and Communication in Policing 2 (8)

Abstract:

The subject has two key aspects: Firstly, it will focus upon the compilation of briefs of evidence. Students will learn to obtain statements, develop fact sheets and prepare briefs of evidence, in order to give evidence in a mock court situation. Secondly, the subject will further develop key communication strategies. Students will identify communication issues specific to particular groups and policing situations. In doing so, students will apply a reflective approach in order to extend and improve their communication practices.

. rules of evidence . statements: their role and preparation . fact sheets . brief preparation . giving evidence in court . writing a narrative (for COPS, CIDS, Fact sheets) . communicating with juveniles . introduction to cognitive interviewing . assertiveness . communication with the mentally ill . conflict management . cross-cultural communication . delivering a death message . across the community role plays . telephone inquiries scenarios

Residential School

This subject contains a compulsory 2 day residential school.

The duration of the Residential School is 12 hours to be held in conjunction with residential periods for other concurrent subjects
