Abstract:

In this subject students will study language / learning delays and impairments in childhood and adolescence. This subject deals with approaches to the assessment and management of language / learning delays and impairments including specific language impairment and learning difficulties from infancy onwards, whether or not these impairments arise from or co-occur with a variety of related conditions (such as hearing impairment, autism spectrum disorder, developmental disability and head injury.)

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

Be able to describe the nature of language / learning delays and impairments in children and adolescents;

Be able to demonstrate knowledge of approaches and techniques in the assessment and intervention of language delays and impairments in childhood and adolescence.

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

Childhood language impairments and delays from infancy through to adolescence. Learning difficulties with a language basis and specific language impairment. Assessment of childhood and adolescent language Intervention methods for language delays and impairments in childhood and adolescence
