SPH315 Therapeutic Communication Practice 3 (Honours) (8)

Abstract:

This subject extends students' understanding and practice of professional skills, processes, procedures and clinical reflection by providing targeted clinical education experiences in the areas of disability, paediatrics, and neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. Students also attend workshops and tutorials.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

With professional supervision and support, be able to:

Identify, plan and implement therapy programs for child, adolescent and adult communication and swallowing impairments.
Select culturally, socially and clinically appropriate assessment processes and practices to plan and implement therapeutic services.
In practice with children and adults, demonstrate an understanding of the primacy of human relationship as foundational to the therapeutic relationship.
Have been judged to have reached novice to intermediate standard in terms of competencies defined by Speech Pathology Australia's Competency-Based Occupational Standards, Entry Level (CBOS-E; revised 2005).
