Abstract:
General theories of management as these apply in non-profit, voluntary associations: values, and practices based on the command/ nurture paradigms of management; the management of worship; the management of people linked by faith and free association; and, the management of an institution with a unique role of personal and corporate spirituality which create Christian ideals of management are examined.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to improve congregational church management by drawing on biblical/ theological principles and contemporary management theory as applied to voluntary not-for- profit groups;
- be able to apply learning to the management of the local church and wider Christian ministry, both lay and ordained;
- be able to provide an understanding of key management issues in the context of the leadership of an Australian Christian Church.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Introduction and case studies. - Planning and managing worship in the Australian church. - Managing music in worship. - Involving the laity in worship leadership and management. - Managing personal spirituality and coping with management stress. - Managing the leaders family life. - Managing Gender Issues. - Managing meeting and personal time management. - Managing in a changing Australian culture. - The Australian congregation as a social system. - Managing for church growth and outreach. - Managing performance appraisal both corporate and individual. - Strategic financial planning and reporting with a goal-centred framework. - Planning and Implementing fieldwork in church management.
Residential School
