Abstract:
The theory and practice of adults conducting drama workshops with and performing for young people is considered in light of scripts, scenarios and/or selected educational themes. The artistic and educational uses of theatre for young people are developed through research, dramaturgical analysis, play-building and rehearsal. This subject culminates in a series of performances for schools throughout the Central West region.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of applying, and critically evaluating the functions and principles of educational drama and theatre for young people
- be able to evaluate a range of educational values that inform the practice of designing drama workshops and theatre for young people
- be able to analyse and apply the art of the performer in teaching young people
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Researching, rehearsing and producing workshops and a performance for performance in schools. - Research into the principles and functions of educational drama and theatre for young people. - Participants are required to improvise, devise, rehearse and perform a role in the production as both an administrator, designer or editor, and as a performer on tour. - Each participant selects one or more of the following areas for research and practice: - Producing and Tour Management - Stage Management - Publicity - Theatre in education - Dramaturgy: text and/or thematic research - Educational resource: follow up material (booklets, teacher's notes, etc) - Costume/props design and construction - Set design and construction - Soundscape
