CSU Discipline Area: Design and Visual Production (DSVIS)

Abstract:
This subject is designed to give students a fundamental working knowledge and understanding of 3D animation in a computer environment. This will allow the student to create simple and complex animated scenes which may be used in broadcast quality productions, on and/or off line products, or for proto-typing work in another medium.

Assumed Knowledge:
It is expected that the student has completed or currently enrolled in VFX105 3D Modelling and Rendering. Students are advised to undertake VFX105 if they are not already fluent in creating photorealistic models and renders with professional 3D software.
Enrolment restrictions:
Not available to students who have already completed VFX201 .
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- - be able to demonstrate the theory of 3D computation and its relation to animation
- - be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the practice of producing 3D animation for internet, television, movie or related graphic design
- - be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the software and hardware employed in the 3D industry
- - be able to demonstrate an appreciation of the creative potential of 3D based production
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- - History, theory and practice of 3D computer animation
- - Technical creativity and production considerations
- - Graphing time
- - Topology and deforming geometry
- - Character Rigging
- - Dynamics
- - Digital cinematography for animation
- - Rendering for production
