Abstract:

This subject introduces students to the fundamentals of audio in the environment. The subject explores live sound, acoustics,and how sound is effected by the environment and various locations.

Enrolment restrictions:

Available to students undertaking School of Communication and Creative Industries courses.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- be able to demonstrate the ability to setup a live audio system
- be able to demonstrate the ability to setup various microphone and speaker configurations
- be able to demonstrate and apply knowledge in the use of audio hardware in the manipulation of sound
- be able to demonstrate and apply knowledge in the use of audio software in the manipulation of sound
- be able to apply reverbs both actual, and virtual through the use of recordings and software

 

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

- What is sound?
- Principles of live sound
- Microphones and Speakers
- Recording and Editing sound

- Reverbs and Delays

- Preparing sound for live playback
- Sound replaying techniques
