Duration: Four sessions
Abstract:
This is the major subject of the Doctor of Visual and Performing arts course, in which students will research their chosen topic through in-depth creative practical work. It is expected that students will create a major exhibition, performance, production or other practical project, though it is also possible to undertake research leading to a dissertation. The project will be approached sequentially and accompanied by a portfolio that includes planning documentation, a reflective journal, and other supportive material.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
demonstrate their understanding of what is meant by creative arts practice as research;
research an issue through creative arts practice;
conceive a major creative arts project in an approved field of arts practice;
plan a major body of work;
complete a major body of work;
manage its mounting, staging or other form of presentation;
document its development;
present a portfolio of doctoral standard that documents the progress of the project from conception to conclusion; and
critically reflect on their own work with other people.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
-creative arts practice as research; -topic or research question choice; -planning major art practice projects; -managing the project; -mounting the exhibition, performance, production or other form of project; -documenting and journalising major creative arts practice projects.
