Abstract:
The subject provides candidates with training in research methods and experimental design. Candidates select a clinical research question for the clinical research project of the Master of Veterinary Studies and will develop a proposal and plan for the project. A literature review and critical analysis of the research question and methods available is undertaken prior to presentation of the research proposal and plan. Candidates obtain all the necessary approvals for the project.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to conducting clinical research;
- Be able to demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge in the area of identified research question
- Be able to identify a research question or problem in the profession
- Be able to develop an appropriate research plan for clinical research
- Be able to clearly explain the development of a research plan for an identified clinical research question
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Students select a research topic and question and develop a plan for a research project, under the guidance of the supervisor(s), which is relevant to the nominated discipline. Students are required to submit at least one progress report to the supervisor(s) during the program and deliver one seminar on their research project to an audience. The progress report will allow the identification of areas of difficulty which may lead to reduced progress throughout the subject enabling revision of the project and plan where appropriate in consultation with the supervisor(s). Assessment items are a literature review relevant to the research project and delivery of a presentation of the research project.
Workplace Learning
This subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of min30 days duration.
Will be undertaken in an on-campus enterprise which is relevant to the selected discipline and research project. The duration of the Workplace Learning is variable over one session, negotiated between the candidate and supervisor(s)
