Abstract:
The aim of this subject is to develop clinical research skills relevant to professional clinical practice. This will include development of advanced clinical knowledge relevant to clinical research questions, research methodologies, problem-solving skills and reflective skills allowing critical appraisal of existing and new research knowledge relevant to the discipline. Candidates will concurrently undertake veterinary clinical training while undertaking this subject allowing development of clinical research skills, methodologies and data collection and translation of generated knowledge. Candidates will develop communication skills through which clinical research knowledge and critical enquiry is communicated and disseminated to peers and undergraduate veterinary students.

Enrolment restrictions:
The subject is restricted to students enrolled in the Master of Veterinary Studies.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Be able to demonstrate advanced clinical research methodologies and knowledge and enquiry attributes, problem-solving skills and conceptual insights relevant to the discipline and associated clinical research questions
- Have developed cognitive and reflective skills to undertake advanced evaluation of existing and new clinical research knowledge relevant to the professional discipline
- Have developed communication skills to explain and critique theory, methodologies, results and conclusions of existing scientific literature
- Be able to communicate and disseminate clinical research knowledge through veterinary undergraduate didactic teaching, problem-based learning facilitation and clinical teaching
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Undertake placement in an enterprise which is relevant to the selected discipline to develop clinical research knowledge and methodologies and collection of research data
- Incorporate clinical research into the undergraduate veterinary science curriculum on campus
- Deliver presentations of critical appraisal of literature relevant to the discipline
- Portfolio of teaching and supervisor assessment of teaching
Workplace Learning
This subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of min35 days duration.
The Workplace learning will be undertaken at an on-campus enterprise, which is relevant to the selected discipline.
Total time of Workplace Learing may vary, but will be the equivalent of half a sesion, negotiated between the supervisor and candidate.
