Admission criteria
All applicants to the ADPP are required to have as a minimum an IELTS level 7 across all categories or equivalent standards recognition i.e. HSC English pass or above levelAdmission to the course is based upon an assessment by the University of an applicant's likelihood of succeeding academically (academic eligibility) and an assessment by the NSW Police Service of an applicant's suitability for appointment as a police officer (professional suitability).
1) Academic eligibility
It should be noted that it is a legislative requirement that a person be aged at least 19 years of age at the point of attestation as a Probationary Constable in the NSW Police. Those applicants not meeting this criterion will be deemed ineligible to enter the course.
Group 1 Qualifications
Applicants must satisfy at least one of the following:
a) Tertiary Studies > 0.5 year with > Pass average
b) Universities Admission Index (UAI) > 80; or, equivalent Year 12 score; or, equivalent professional qualification as determined by the UAC 'Assessment of Qualifications Manual'
c) Completed TAFE Associate Diploma
d) TAFE Tertiary Preparation Course > 200
e) Completed TAFE Certificate III - 'Aboriginal Access to Further Study'
f)all applicants to the ADPP are required to have as a minimum an IELTS level 7 across all categories or equivalent standards recognition i.e. HSC English pass or above level
Group 2 Qualifications
Applicants must be over 21 years of age, and satisfy at least one of the following:
a) Universities Admission Index (UAI) 66-79; or, equivalent Year 12 score; or, equivalent professional qualification as determined by the UAC 'Assessment of Qualifications Manual'
b) Completed > two tertiary subjects > Credit average
c) Completed two tertiary subjects > Pass grades
d) Completed tertiary preparation program from University (1 year FTE plus 50% grade average)
e) TAFE Tertiary Preparation Course 165-199 (1997 onwards)
f) AQF Diploma
g) Completed Trade Certificate
h) Completed Certificate IV or Military Police
i)all applicants to the ADPP are required to have as a minimum an IELTS level 7 across all categories or equivalent standards recognition i.e. HSC English pass or above level
Group 3 Qualifications
Applicants must be over 21 years of age, and satisfy at least one of the following:
a) Completed tertiary preparation program from University of below one year
b) Completed Certificate II and III
c) Service Personnel - rank of Corporal or above (below Corporal must undertake both STAT tests)
d) Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) test overall score > 152
e) Relevant work experience plus Industry Training (state or federal police, law enforcement agency)
f) Completed Charles Sturt University, DPP Enabling Program
i)all applicants to the ADPP are required to have as a minimum an IELTS level 7 across all categories or equivalent standards recognition i.e. HSC English pass or above level
Group 4 Qualifications
Applicants who are under 21 years of age and who satisfy at least one of the following:
a) Universities Admission Index (UAI) 66-79; or, equivalent Year 12 score; or, equivalent professional qualification as determined by the UAC 'Assessment of Qualifications Manual'
b) Completed two tertiary subjects > Credit average
c) Completed two tertiary subjects > Pass average
d) TAFE Tertiary Preparation Course 165-199 (1997 onward)
e) Completed tertiary preparation program from University (1 years FTE plus 50% grade average)
f) AQF Diploma
g) Completed Trade Certificate
h) Completed Certificate IV

Graduate Entry
Graduate entry points will be determined on the basis of true Recognition of Prior Learning; therefore, there will not be a nominated entry point for Graduate entry.
Applicants are eligible for graduate entry who have completed:
- a three-year University or CAE undergraduate degree or diploma; or
- two-thirds of a University undergraduate degree, preferably in one of the following disciplines:
(a) Humanities/Social Sciences (including Justice Studies)
(b) Social Welfare/Social Work
(c) Arts
(d) Education
(e) Health Studies (Nursing)
Applicants with previous policing experience in a recognised jurisdiction may elect to be considered for entry with advanced standing (or 'graduate' status). All such applicants should submit a resume detailing service history including duration of service, experience and qualifications gained.
Graduate applicants receive 32 points of credit for (PPP111, PPP112, PPP113, PP114, PPP115, PPP116) or (PPP101, PPP102, PPP103, PPP104, PPP105, PPP106) but are required to complete an additional subject, to be determined by the Course Coordinator. Graduate applicants commence their studies by enrolling in Session 3 subjects. See below for the enrolment pattern for graduate entry.
2) Professional suitability
The NSW Police Service is solely responsible for determining professional suitability and for monitoring the ongoing professional suitability for police employment of students enrolled in the course.
In assessing professional suitability the NSW Police Service will consider such things as an applicant's physical health (including colour-blindness), mental health and criminal record. The NSW Police Service determines from time to time the specific criteria and standards for assessing professional suitability.
Credit
Students are not expected to complete subjects already successfully completed. Students may apply for credit for equivalent previous tertiary or industry studies.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Social Science (Justice Studies - Policing), the Bachelor of Justice Studies (Policing) and other pre-entry policing degrees are eligible for up to 112 points of credit (equivalent of 14 standard subjects).
Students who have completed the Associate Degree in Policing Practice and wish to undertake one of these two degree courses, receive a credit package of 128 points upon admission.
Graduation requirement
To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 128 points.
