EED407 Families, Communities and Early Childhood Services (8)
Abstract|
In this subject, students will explore the range of early education services available for families with young children. Students will interview an early education service leader about aspects of a service, critically review the information and present a tutorial seminar that outlines their conclusions. Students will consider a range of family situations and critically review the suitability of services for the families reviewed. Students will apply socio-cultural perspectives to their understanding of children's learning and development and highlight the connection between children, families, communities and early childhood services in Australia. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- develop an understanding of the range and purposes of early childhood services for families in Australia;
- have engaged with an educational leader in the community to develop a service report, giving a comprehensive overview of the services available in the community;
- created and delivered a presentation, of open format, based on relevant information gathered in the service report;
- have engaged in critical reflection about the suitability of particular service options for families in diverse circumstances;
- have developed an understanding of the strength approach and applied this approach for recommending services for families in complex situations;
- have an understanding of the importance of socio-cultural perspectives and developed the ability to apply such perspectives to support families.
