Abstract| This subject aims to develop students' knowledge and skills in the area of secondary Visual Arts education. It examines the role of Visual Arts in the development of young people; contemporary issues in arts education; and the requirements of current Year 7-12 syllabus in NSW. Pre-service teachers will develop a range of strategies appropriate for teaching, learning programs and assessment strategies. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- understand the relationship between the content of post mandatory Visual Arts and other post mandatory Art subjects; - consider the role of Visual Arts education in the school curriculum; - analyse current issues in 7-12 Visual Arts; - elaborate the idea of experiential learning in art making; - examine visual culture as a site for critical enquiry in Visual Art education; - understand the relationship between different areas of content in 7-12 Visual Arts syllabuses; - consider individual differences and develop teaching strategies that cater for different learning needs; - plan and implement programs that achieve an understanding of the K-12 continuum, with a 7-10 focus; and, - understand and use a range of assessment and reporting strategies to achieve quality teaching and learning.
