EPT433 Professional Experience 2 (8)
Abstract This subject will enable students as preservice teachers to integrate their knowledge and skills as emerging professionals by successfully completing a final supported 25 day professional experience program in a primary school setting. Students will explore practical means of integrating curriculum through effective design, implementation, assessment, evaluation and reflection on pedagogical practices. Students are required as preservice teachers to actively and professionally engage with the broad school community, and are encouraged and supported to undertake a placement in a rural community. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- identify objectives from previous professional experience programs as a focus in this placement - demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and implications of curriculum as it applies to the primary school through skills in planning, implementing, assessing and evaluating an integrated series of learning experiences, employing a range of pedagogical strategies and reflective strategies - justify their pedagogical decisions in light of their understanding of - quality teaching, diverse learners and contexts - demonstrate their ability to incorporate issues of environmental sustainability, ICT and multiliteracies in the planning of a sequence of integrated lessons; and - demonstrate effective interpersonal engagement with professional stakeholders.

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics: - Mapping personal and professional attributes required of quality teachers in light of their own learning
- Negotiation and communication skills
- Role of critical reflection in improving learning and teaching
- Curriculum integration to explore relationship between curriculum, pedagogy and assessment as demonstrated through practice in a K-6 context
- Assessing for student learning & reporting to significant stakeholders. |
