Abstract

This subject is designed to provide students with experience in current and emerging networking technology. The subject provides students with the skills and practice needed to design, build and maintain small to medium sized networks. Students will also develop their skills in investigating, analysing and implementing current and emerging advanced networking technologies. Concepts covered in this subject include: Static routing protocol, and dynamic routing protocols such as RIP, EIGRP, and OSPF. This subject is the second in a series of four subjects that incorporate the Cisco Networking Academy program.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Be able to describe the purpose, nature, and operations of a router;
  • Be able to analyse the routing process;
  • Be able to distinguish between different routing protocols;
  • Be able to integrate networking components to construct LAN network designs and documentation;
  • Be able to perform tasks related to using the router interface and interface modes; and
  • Be able to implement the solutions of the given LAN networking problems.

- VLSM and CIDR
- RIP Version 2
- The Routing Table: A Closer Look

- Link State Routing Protocols
- OSPF

Residential School

This subject contains a compulsory 2 day residential school. Purpose:
The inclusion of the Cisco Networking Academy Program requires all students to undertake practical based assessment activities conducted in a networking laboratory.

Activities:
1. Laboratory based practical exercises
2. Practical assessment activities
3. Invigilated Online Cisco examination and other as appropriate
