Abstract| This subject examines the philosophy and role of management within organisations. The various aspects and functions of management are analysed so that students can apply management principles and practices within both public and private sector organisations. Main topics are planning, organising, leading and controlling, as well as management theory, ethics and social responsibility, organisational culture and managing change. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to critically discuss the evolution of management theory;
- be able to apply the various theories to managerial problems;
- be able to analyse organisational problems from a variety of scholarly perspectives;
- be able to show familiarity with the literature regarding activities involving organising and planning within organisations;
- be able to describe in detail theories of motivation and leadership, and appreciate the significance of teamwork and communication;
- be able to apply material on control, operations management and information systems to practical situations;
- be able to apply all of the theories and material covered in this subject, demonstrating a thorough and complete understanding of the subject material. |

Residential SchoolThis subject contains a compulsory 2 day residential school.
Students in the Diploma of General Studies studying the distance education option will be required to attend one face-to-face session at the support hub in Dubbo.
