Normal course duration

Full-time 1.5 years (3.0 sessions)

  • Normal course duration is the effective period of time taken to complete a course when studied Full-time (Full-time Equivalent: FTE). Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern for the actual length of study. Not all courses are offered in Full-time mode.
  • This course may utilise a three session per year teaching calendar. Students should consult the Enrolment Pattern for availability of subjects in Session 3, or contact their Course Coordinator.
  • Admission criteria CSU Admission Policy

    Students must have either:

    1. successfully completed a recognised undergraduate degree or equivalent in either social welfare, social work, human services or the social sciences;
      or
    2. successfully completed the Graduate Certificate in Human Services

    Credit CSU Credit Policy

    Credit of up to six subjects (48  points) may be awarded to a student who has completed equivalent study at Masters  level at a recognised tertiary institution. All credit applications will be considered by the Course Coordinator.

    Graduation requirement

    To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 96 points.

    Course structure

    To graduate from the Master of Human Service, students must satisfactorily complete 96 points.

    Students undertaking the coursework option must complete:

    1. Five core subject (64 points) comprising either:

    ETH402 Vulnerability and the Ethics of Intervention
    SWK 504 Human Services Research Methods
    SPE501 Advanced Social Policy Analysis & Planning (16)
    HCS531 Leading Human Service Development (16)
    HCS521 Practice leadership in Human Services (16)

    2. Four Restricted Electives (32 points).

    Students undertaking the Dissertation option must complete:

    1. Five core subject (64 points) comprising either:

    ETH402 Vulnerability and the Ethics of Intervention
    SWK 504 Human Services Research Methods
    SPE501 Advanced Social Policy Analysis & Planning (16)
    HCS531 Leading Human Service Development (16)
    HCS521 Practice leadership in Human Services (16)
    AND

    2. WEL508 Social Policy Reading Subject
    AND

    3. SWK500 Social Work and Human Services Dissertation (16points)

    AND
