  • Normal course duration is the effective period of time taken to complete a course when studied Full-time (Full-time Equivalent: FTE). Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern for the actual length of study. Not all courses are offered in Full-time mode.

    Master of Information Studies (with Specialisations)

    An applicant for admission to the Master of Information Studies shall have a CSU recognised undergraduate degree in any discipline, or qualifications and/or work experience deemed equivalent by the University under the provisions of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

    Graduate Diploma of Information Studies

    An applicant for admission (Hong Kong University Space students only) to the Graduate Diploma of Information Studies shall have a CSU recognised undergraduate degree in any discipline, or qualifications and/or work experience deemed equivalent by the University under the provisions of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

     

    Graduate Certificate in Information Studies

    An applicant for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Information Studies shall have a CSU recognised undergraduate degree in any discipline, or qualifications and/or work experience deemed equivalent by the University under the provisions of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

    Credit CSU Credit Policy

    Master of Information Studies (with Specialisations)

    Applicants who have a Diploma/Associate Diploma of Library and Information Studies and equivalents  from any recognised Registered Training Organisation (RTO)  may be eligible for a maximum credit of 24 points comprising:
     
      One (1) Core Subject (8 pts)

       Two (2) Elective Subjects (16 pts)


    Applicants who have an Advanced Diploma of Library and Information Studies and equivalents from any recognised Registered Training Organisation (RTO) may be eligible for a maximum credit of 24 points comprising:

       One (1) Core Subject (8 pts)

       Two (2) Elective Subjects (16 pts)


    Applicants who have a professionally recognised/accredited degree in the information studies field from any Australian university may be eligible for a maximum credit of 48 points comprising:

       Seven (7) Core Subjects (48 pts)

     

    Applicants who have a professionally recognised/accredited Graduate Diploma or Masters course in the information studies field from any Australian university may be eligible for a maximum credit of 64 points comprising:
       
      Nine (9) Core Subjects (64 pts)


    Applicants who have a Diploma in Teacher Librarianship or Diploma of Teacher Librarianship from Hong Kong University SPACE may be eligible for a maximum credit of 32 points comprising:

      One (1) Core Subject (8 pts)

      Three (3) Elective Subjects (24 pts)

    Articulation

    The Master, the Graduate Diploma and the Graduate Certificate make up an articulated set of courses and credit is given in each higher level course for the subjects completed in the lower.

    Graduation requirement

    Master of Information Studies (with Specialisations)

    To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 96 points.

    Graduate Diploma of Information Studies

    To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.

    Graduate Certificate in Information Studies

    To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 32 points.

    Course structure

    Master of Information Studies

    Students must complete 96 points comprising a core of nine (9) subjects (a total of 64 points) and four (4) subjects (32 points) chosen from those listed in the Specialisations.

    Core Subjects

    The core comprises seven (7) standard (8 point) subjects and two (2) 4 point subjects. This is the equivalent of eight (8) standard (8 point) subjects.

    Upon successful completion of the above subjects, students are eligible to exit the Masters course with the Graduate Diploma of Information Studies (GradDipInfoStud).


    Continuing Study

    Students continuing in the Master of Information Studies (with the exception of the Applied Research Specialisation) are required to complete a further four (4) elective subjects.

    Students have the option to complete a general Master of Information Studies degree or specialise in one of the following areas and graduate with a Master of Information Studies (specialisation).

    Professional recognition

    Graduates of the Master degree and/or Graduate Diploma may be admitted to Associate (professional) Membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) without further examination; similary to professional membership of RIM Professional Australasia. Graduates of the Records and Archives Management specialisation may also be admitted to professional membership of the Australian Society of Archivists.
