Abstract

Students learn key principles and develop skills in copywriting and design for television and radio commercials. They develop understanding and skills in producing TV and radio ads - including budgetting and management of the process. Stduents study and are encouraged to develop creative, low budget television commercials.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
Understand key principles and have developed abasic skills in copywriting and design for television commercials.
Understand key principles and have developed basic skills in copywriting and design for radio commercials.
Understand steps in the production process of TV and radio commercials, developed skills in preparing cost estimates and in the management of the production process.
Understand the role of braodcast producers in agencies.
Understand both analogue and digital production processes.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
Principles and practices of copywriting and design for television commercials. Writing creative concepts for low budget television commercials. Principles and practices of copywriting and design for radio commercials. How to present creative concepts for TV and radio. Steps in the production of TV commercials, preparation of cost estimates and the management of the production process. Steps in the production of radio commercials, preparation of cost estimates and the management of the production process. History and recent developments in television advertising. The role of braodcast producers in agencies. Introduction to both analogue and digital technology.
