Abstract| Students in this subject take a detailed look at the concept and practice of sustainable development in the context of industrialised economies. The first four topics explore the 'theory' of sustainability and efforts to incorporate it into policy and planning; the fifth topic introduces the concept of business sustainability. The final two topics consider the practicalities of implementing sustainable management in businesses and organisations. |

the history of environmentalism and the rise of sustainability in mainstream social, economic and political thought
ecologically sustainable development (ESD) in Australia
the economic, social and ecological dimensions of sustainability; ethical issues
theoretical approaches to managing for sustainability
practical approaches to achieving sustainable development
