BMS508 Research Proposal (8)

Abstract

Students prepare and justify in writing a detailed research proposal plus a literature review in preparation for the research. Other requirements include completing and submitting (where necessary) relevant CSU human and/or animal ethical approval procedures and other approvals that may be required. Furthermore the student is required to obtain the necessary approvals to carry out research from the institution where the research will be carried out.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill of information and literature searching;
  • be able to collate, evaluate and critically review information on a specific topic;
  • have developed skills in drafting and writing a research proposal, including completion of all ethical requirements and other approvals.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • preparation of a substantial written review of the scientific literature on a selected topic;
  • preparation of a detailed written proposal for a research project (including human/animal ethics considerations);
  • preparation and application of ethics approval from CSU and from authorities where the research will be done.
