Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
Understand the language of chemistry;
Be able to calculate chemical amounts of matter;
Be able to apply known physical laws and perform related calculations;
Understand molecular behaviour of matter that explains observed macroscopic properties;
Understand states of matter with respect to bonding;
Be able to deal with quantities of matter in solutions;
Understand the nature of equilibrium and perform calculations;
Understand the properties of acids and bases and perform calculations.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
Chemical foundations; Classification of matter; Stoichiometry; Gases; Atomic structure; Chemical bonding; Condensed states; Solutions; Chemical equilibrium; Acids and bases.

Residential School
