Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
* describe the importance of effective communication, and the means of interpreting messages in Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultures
* analyse the role of communication in health care delivery in Indigenous society
* describe how communication affects, and is affected by, issues (eg. education, lifestyle, health status)
* demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the following issues and Indigenous Australians: education; lifestyle practices; emotional and spiritual harmony; gender; substance abuse; violence |

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
* Verbal and non-verbal forms of communication in Aboriginal communities.
* Communication, community participation and health and well being.
* Aboriginal health and the mass media.
* Communication and health care delivery.
* Influences on health status of Indigenous Australians (eg. education, lifestyle practices, gender). |

Residential School| This subject contains a compulsory 12 day residential school.
Residentials will provide students with intensive support with lectures and tutorials providing the studends with enough support to achieve satisfactory subject performance outcomes.
