Abstract

This subject examines communication with internal and external stakeholders as a management concern. The subject explores communication management and practices, and critiques human interaction within complex organisations – including leadership, change communication and organisational behavior.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to explain different approaches to managing communication in organisations
  • be able to apply theories and models of communication to the analysis of a wide range of organisational contexts, including change management and cultural change for employee communication, and relationship management with key external stakeholders
  • be able to reflect on, and engage meaningfully with a range of stakeholder perspectives, particularly those of employees
  • be able to investigate and analyse the aspects of context that influence approaches to organisational change

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • Organisational communication theory and practice
  • Cultural, ethical, creative and political issues facing 21st century managers
  • Roles and responsibilities of organisational communicators
  • Culture, change management, leadership and technology in an organisational context
  • Providing strategic communication advice to management
  • Organisational communication research and analysis strategies
