COM540 Corporate Culture, Stakeholder and Change Communication (16)

Abstract

Understanding of organisational culture and change are essential for organisational communication professionals. This subject critically examines external pressures to change, such as sustainability, employee and community engagement, demographics, responsibility, reputation and gaining competitive advantage. It explores methods used by organisations to identify, meet and manage stakeholder expectations. It explores and critiques concepts of corporate culture, and the implications of organisational change for organisational communication professionals.  Students explore principles, theory and case studies of contemporary practice and strategies for meeting and managing stakeholder expectations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the role of communication in organisational culture and organisational change
  • Demonstrate cognitive skills to critically evaluate theories and contemporary communication practice concerning organisational culture
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and critically evaluate stakeholder theory and practice, and external pressures on organisations, and develop strategies intended to support and effect organisational change

  • Organisational change: context and issues
  • Stakeholder communication: consultation, engagement and adaptation
  • Contemporary expectations and challenges for professional communicators
  • Planning and developing strategies for change
