Abstract

This subject builds on knowledge and techniques learnt in DES213 Design and Production 1. Students will undertake Head of Department roles on live productions, advancing the collaboration, leadership and communication skills essential to developing their professionalism and enhancing their career pathway. Students will have the opportunity to extend and practise their creative aptitudes in an innovative and collaborative environment.

Students should have successfully completed DES107, DES108, DES109 and DES213 before undertaking this subject.

Enrolment restrictions

Available to students in the Bachelor of Stage and Screen (core to Design specialisation) Not available to students who have successfully completed DES212.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

be able to practise and implement work place health and safety practices to a pass standard;
be able to critically reflect upon their leadership and communication skills and evaluate their abilities;
be able to employ and discuss discipline specific terminology;
be able to utilise discipline specific skills and knowledge to plan and design projects independently;
be able to support projects through applying well developed management skills; and
be able to engage and collaborate with other performance disciplines.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:

work place health and safety and risk management;
script analysis;
leadership and responsibility;
effective Head of Department management;
production and technical management;
set and properties design;
costume design; and
lighting design.
