Abstract|
This is an introductory course that begins the study of Oral Biology. This subject establishes the foundational knowledge needed in oral anatomy, histology and embryologic development. Crown and root anatomy, morphology and clinical characteristics will be examined in detail. Students will identify and differentiate oral structures. The subject is focused on the healthy development of the oral cavity at this stage of study so the student acquires sound foundational knowledge needed to distinguish health from disease and provide optimal oral health care as an oral health care practitioner. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to describe the basic embryological processes that lead to the development of the oral region
- be able to describe the human body using appropriate anatomical terminology; with a focus on head and neck anatomical structure and function
- be able to describe the sequence and expound on the stages of tooth development including initiation, bud, cap, bell, apposition and maturation
- be able to apply acquired knowledge concerning Oral Histology and Embryology during clinical settings and treatment to all populations
- be able to demonstrate professional behaviour and attitudes at all times in all learning environments including the patient and simulation clinics
