Abstract

In this subject students will receive advanced simulation experience in restorative and endodontic procedures and an introduction to preclinical fixed prosthodontics. Students will also be introduced to community and population health, developing an understanding of as well as skills in the analysis of distribution and frequency of diseases and health anomalies of significance to oral health.  This subject will also incorporate continuing experience in exodontia and continued learning in oral pathology.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

-be able to demonstrate knowledge of endodontics and the continuing development of simulated competence in a range of endodontic procedures;
-be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic fixed prosthodontics and competence in a range of simulated fixed prosthodontics procedures;
-be able to demonstrate knowledge of the development and organization of community (and population) health, focussing on health prevention and promotion;
-be able to identify attitudes, behaviours and consequences related to health issues with particular relevance to oral health;
-be able to demonstrate an understanding and the application of epidemiological skills related to dental public health.
-be able to demonstrate clinical competence in exodontia
-be able to demonstrate knowledge of the more common and/or important diseases of the oral soft tissues, the salivary glands and the jawbones and temporomandibular joint

The subject will cover the following topics:

-Advanced preclinical endodontics
-Introduction to preclinical fixed prosthodontics
-Introduction to community and population public health
-Epidemiology related to dental public health
-Developmental, inflammatory, reactive and neo plastic diseases of the oral mucosa and related soft tissues
-Developmental, inflammatory, reactive and neo plastic diseases of the salivary glands
-Developmental, inflammatory, reactive and neo plastic diseases of the jaw bones and temporomandibular joint
