DOH493 Advanced Clinical Options (8)

Abstract

This subject is undertaken by final year students whilst they are on clinical placement in Session 1.The subject is largely a directed student learning and self-learning subject requiring students to undertake independent reading and literature searches on assigned topics in dentistry, to evaluate literature, to demonstrate critical thinking skills and to demonstrate high level analytical and written communication skills. Although not a formal part of the subject students' clinical experiences also inform this subject.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • A range of specific topics (that varies from year to year) along with literature guides is established and published on Interact
  • Advanced restorative materials, their clinical applications and relevance to modern general dental practice
  • Clinical and technological advances in endodontics - are they all applicable to general dental practice?
  • Innovations in implant dentistry
  • Inflammatory periodontal disease - do we yet know the cause(s)?
  • Viruses and oral mucosal diseases
  • What is ethics and professionalism?
  • What challenges face the general dental practitioner in rural-regional Australia?
