EEB400 Professionalism and Issues in Care and Education (8)
AbstractThis subject explores contemporary issues in early childhood and primary education in Australia and provides a context for beginning teachers to explore and acknowledge their responsibilities, knowledge and beliefs as education professionals. It aims to develop the student's understanding of their profession and their own development as a beginning teacher in modern Australian educational contexts. Students have the opportunity to specialise in studies of Australian Indigenous education in this subject. Students will be required to develop a personal professional portfolio and demonstrate their understanding of their professional philosophy and knowledge, teaching competency, and interpersonal skills in a formal review situation. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
-be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of sound educational practice according to current discourse; -have developed a response to a range of current issues for children, families, teachers and communities that impact on educational practice; -be able to critically analyse underlying values, understandings and contextual influences which impact on identified issues; -be able to critically analyse relevant contemporary government policies; -have the ability to articulate the contributions they can make as members of the teaching profession by continuing to write about the issues which face teaching professionals; -have exercised critical and reflective judgement; -be able to conceptualise their work in terms of being agents of change; and -be able to demonstrate ethical practice including their personal and public responsibility for professional decisions and actions.

-Philosophies of individuals, early childhood services and schools: changing beliefs, values and practices
-Societal values and children's education: Challenging policy and practice and social justice
-Child protection education and training: risk, prevention, early intervention, identification, mandatory reporting and protection |
