EEB434 Leadership in Early Childhood (8)

Abstract

This subject focuses on understanding the nature and enactment of leadership in early childhood and primary education settings. Students will develop an understanding of organisational leadership theories and skills, construct a personal leadership philosophy and apply their learning to the challenges of leading education projects and/or services. Organisational change, strategic planning and developing a culture of professional learning will be among the topics covered in this subject.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to articulate and demonstrate the relationship between their leadership philosophy and their enactment of leadership;
  • be able to demonstrate the capacity to facilitate and contribute to effective internal and external collaborations to improve support and outcomes for children and their families;
  • be able to demonstrate an informed and considered approach to facilitating collective strategic planning and evaluation, including building institutional / team cohesion conducive to high quality educational practice;
  • be able to apply an understanding of change management to their approaches to organisational and team leadership;
  • be able to demonstrate the capacity to provide pedagogical leadership, including the adoption and tailoring of diverse approaches to support the professional development of all staff;
  • be able to demonstrate clear and effective communication skills, appropriate to the target audience (teachers, support staff, families, other agencies).
