EEB503 Reflecting on Education as a Profession in the 21st Century (8)

Abstract

Students will be required to complete an e-Portfolio that will include a substantial reflection on their studies within the MEd and the contribution of their learning to their thinking as a professional and to their progress and development within their career. In particular they will consider the changes that have occurred within their practices and the profession more widely and critically assess the issues that have contributed to these changes.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:


  1. Reflect deeply on the learning they have experienced during the MEd and in particular consider the contributions this learning has made to their practice as a professional.


  2. Consider changes and pressures within the broader education profession and how these are influencing their own career experiences.


  3. Consider the way their learninig has helped change their practice as a professional and the way their careers may develop as a result of their learning.


  4. Complete a comprehensive e-Portfolio that includes reflection on, and self-assessment of, their studies and the contributions these have made to their growth as a professional.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
  1. Consideration of the position and relevance of the professional educator in 21st Century education.
  2. Critical assessment of the connections between the theories and learning experienced in the MEd and education in practice.
  3. Review of the skills, competencies and perspectives developed through study in the MEd.
  4. Critical reflection on the integration, connections, and synthesis in learning experienced in the MEd.
  5. Critical reflection on contemporary planning and decision making for the 21st Century professional educator.
  6. Exchange of views and concepts of education as a profession in the 21st Century with fellow students from "like" and "unlike" education backgrounds.
  7. Completion of a comprehensive e-Portfolio of the critical reflections, self-assessment and other learning experienced through the MEd.
