EEL205 Early Childhood Management: Policy and Practice (8)

Abstract

This subject will ensure students understand the management procedures of early children services and the policies which impact upon these services, including human resources, financial management, community engagement, submission writing and the establishment and maintenance of appropriate resources for children and staff within an early childhood service. The development of communicative skills will also be emphasised, especially oral and written methods. Students will develop a submission for funding for a new playground, and consider the broader implications of policy and regulation impacting on this submission. They will examine issues for recruitment and develop an approach to recruitment.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills of meeting components such as agenda preparation, meeting formation, role descriptions within the meeting, minute taking and time keeping
  • be able to write a professional submission that successfully includes all aspects required to secure funding
  • be able to understand the role of community members, parents and staff in an early childhood setting in relation to involving them in decision making, understanding their needs, listening to their concerns and gaining their input for any major change to an early childhood service
