EEL501 Professional and Practice-Based Education (8)

Abstract

This subject offers an introduction to the theories and practice of professional and practice-based education (P&PBE). It emphasises that P & PBE is a whole of curriculum approach that can make use of a number of pedagogical approaches such as simulations, problem-based learning, as well as workplace learning (WPL). Good practices and issues associated with the Quality Agenda in relation to P&PBE will also play a prominent role in the subject. Workplace Learning as a part of professional education will be included in the subject, with sub topics such as quality, innovation, strategies, management and experiences of WPL.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the nature and scope of professional and practice-based education;
  • Critically discuss the role of P & PBE in higher education;
  • Articulate and critique good practices in professional and practice-based education in the context of the quality agenda;
  • Critique a course with which they are associated in relation to P&PBE good practices.;
  • Identify and critique options for integrating WPL into curricula;
  • Discuss the implementation and management of WPL.
