Abstract
This subject offers an introduction to the theories and practice of professional and practice-based education (P&PBE). It emphasises that P & PBE is a whole of curriculum approach that can make use of a number of pedagogical approaches such as simulations, problem-based learning, as well as workplace learning (WPL). Good practices and issues associated with the Quality Agenda in relation to P&PBE will also play a prominent role in the subject. Workplace Learning as a part of professional education will be included in the subject, with sub topics such as quality, innovation, strategies, management and experiences of WPL. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the nature and scope of professional and practice-based education;
- Critically discuss the role of P & PBE in higher education;
- Articulate and critique good practices in professional and practice-based education in the context of the quality agenda;
- Critique a course with which they are associated in relation to P&PBE good practices.;
- Identify and critique options for integrating WPL into curricula;
- Discuss the implementation and management of WPL.
