Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- gain insight into the nature and culture of educational research;
- be able to articulate researchable questions and the research designs to study those questions;
- be able to reflect on the nature of ontological and epistemological claims;
- explain the purpose and nature of a literature review and of theoretical frameworks that guide a study;
- develop an understanding of issues of sampling and research participants;
- develop skills to take critical perspectives on educational research;
- identify and analyse ethical issues that impact upon the conduct of educational research.

- Role of theory and theoretical frameworks.
- Research design- non-experimental, experimental, ethnographic, case study, phenomenological, evaluative and emancipatory research.
- Critical perspectives on the research process.
- Ethics and educational research.
