EHR320 Work Integrated Learning Project (8)

Abstract

This subject adopts the theoretical frameworks of problem based learning and action research. During their minimum of 140 hours of professional placement, students will design, implement and evaluate an action research project that has identifiable benefits for stakeholders in an industry/university partnership. This experience aims to assist students to fully participate as an emerging professional in the exercise science community, by investigating the operational requirements of the industry, assuming multiple roles and responsibilities, adopting ethical practice, and integrating their discipline, practical, interpersonal and reflective knowledge in authentic, real-world professional contexts. The subject provides opportunities for students to articulate their personal and professional suitability for employment in the exercise science and related fields of the profession.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • participate as a developing professional in an occupational cultural community;
  • develop a professional identity by participating in a broad array of occupational socialising experiences;
  • articulate a professional philosophy appropriate to the discipline of exercise science or related fields;
  • interrogate their professional suitability to employment in exercise science and related fields;
  • integrate their discipline, practical, interpersonal and reflective knowledge and skills in responding to authentic, contextual professional tasks;
  • demonstrate their ability to adopt ethical and principled practices and standards in a professional context;
  • examine the roles, responsibilities and operational requirements of participants in professional partnerships;
  • synthesise and apply their knowledge of problem-based learning, to the design, implementation and evaluation of an action research project that has identifiable benefits for all stakeholders in the professional partnership;
  • actively engage in a professional placement for a minimum of 140 hours.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
- Undertake 140 hours of professional placement. Students may choose to complete hours towards their Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) accreditation, in particular, their healthy population hours.
