ELT025 Timeshare Resort Management (8)

Abstract

Timeshare or vacation ownership is a concept whereby a group of people share the cost of owning and operating a resort. This high quality holiday product attracts consumers with its flexibility of worldwide vacations. The nature of the timeshare product can vary from a deeded interest to other point based systems. Hence an understanding of the service offerings of the major exchange companies in this field is important. In addition, professionals in the timeshare resort management arena also need to be aware of legal and ethical issues associated with the product. This subject is designed to assist in the development of professionals with adequate management skills to resource this growing industry.

Analyse the underpinning management and business principles.
Provide critical comment upon discernible trends within the industry.
Evaluate the operational and strategic marketing procedures.
Explain and critically evaluate the operation structures and systems utilised.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
The learning outcomes in this subject are achieved through the use of inter-active media. Students utilise the accredited CD-ROM containing all subject information. In addition, via the CD-ROM, students can access a range of learning activities that assist in consolidating their knowledge in this field. All the above learning objectives are introduced and substantiated through written hard copy reading materials and CD-ROM lecture delivery. In addition, students develop critical analyses through weekly learning activities. Students evaluate the latest news and development on timeshare as it happens through on line access. On line discussion groups and a noticeboard of frequently asked questions provide an additional facility to the subject. As timeshare is a global product, the module takes an international focus. As a result, the focus is on Europe, Asia Pacific and the US.
