Abstract
This subject seeks to develop students’ pedagogical content knowledge in the area of elementary science and technology education. There is an emphasis on inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, questioning, cross-curricular connections and programming. A range of pedagogies and assessment strategies will be made explicit throughout this subject. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be familiar with the content and process knowledge required for the range of topics in the Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum and relevant expectations in the Ontario Kindergarten Program;
- begin to develop pedagogical content knowledge in Science and Technology teaching;
- be able to design, implement and evaluate practical Science and Technology activities suitable for use in elementary classrooms;
- prepare and construct learning environments and responsive pedagogies that are inclusive, culturally relevant and authentic to a variety of learners (e.g. ELL, First Nations, Métis, Inuit, disengaged learners, students with special needs, students with cultural customs and beliefs);
- be able to develop assessment strategies in Science and Technology which meet the needs of all learners and reflect current Ministry of Ontario documents; and
- be able to appraise children's skills in Science and Technology and teach as appropriate.

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- The Curriculum.
- How do children develop scientific and technological knowledge?
- A theoretical model of science education and working scientifically.
- Teaching and learning Science and Technology.
- Science and Technology content strands.
- The relevance of a range of information and communications technologies in relation to Science and Technology education.
