EMV301 Vocational Education: Professional Practice (8)

Abstract

This subject is designed to introduce students to the Vocational Education and Training sector with particular emphasis on Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools. It includes the Units of Competency from the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. This is the minimum qualification for teachers delivering VET subjects in schools. Students will cover those Units of Competency in this credential that have been identified by CSU Training (Registered Training Organisation (RTO) as NOT covered in the suite of Education Foundation subjects.

This subject includes:

1. An introduction to the VET sector and the context of VET in Schools
2. The Certificate 1V in Assessment and Workplace Training
3. University Extension that builds on the VET Sector qualification in relevant content area.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to describe clearly how Vocational education is defined within the broad context of secondary schooling in NSW and Australia;
- be able to outline how Vocational Education courses in schools fit into the National Training Agenda, NSW government policy and planning for VET provision and the NSW secondary school curriculum;
- complete the requirements for the award of the Certificate 1V in Training and Assessment (TAA40104).
- complete the requirements for the University extension of the relevant VET sector qualification.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
- The VET sector and the context of VET in Schools curriculum offerings. - The National Training Agenda: Where Schools fit in. - NSW government policy on VET in Schools. - The structure of secondary schooling and the place of VET in schools within this structure. - Relevant units of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. - Critical appraisal of relevant VET Sector qualification and extension of this content in a VET in schools context.
