ENM414 Environmental Management Internship (32)

Abstract

This subject develops in students skills related to a number of management systems such as those to focused on assets, risk, finances, and capacity. Students undertake a project with an environmental business, agency or government department and gain key admininstrative and workplace skills that employers want environmental graduates to possess. Students work for 16 weeks in an approved industry placement relevant to the course. Assessment is by assignments based on the industry placement where the student investigates and reflects upon the context and processes of management in the work environment they observe and experience and an analysis of management outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to recognise current administrative and management issues facing both private and public natural resource management agencies;
- be able to apply organisational logic;
- be able to create a budget and costings for projects;
- be able to implement appropriate outsourcing policy and procedures;
- be able to create an asset management system;
- be able to calculate capacities and growth for visitor facilities;
- be capable of recognising and appropriately managing organisational risk;
- be capable of analysing financial statements;
- know the importance of ethics and quality in service delivery; and
- be able to adopt appropriate courses of action to achieve career aspirations.
