ENM424 Environmental Internship (24)
Abstract
This subject develops in students skills related to a number of management systems such as those to focused on assets, risk, finances, and capacity. Students undertake a project with an environmental business, agency or government department and gain key admininstrative and workplace skills that employers want environmental graduates to possess. Students work for 10-12 weeks in an approved industry placement relevant to the course. As such it is a capstone subject (i.e. a subject that integrates your prior learning in other subjects) for all your other subjects. Assessment is by assignments based on the industry placement where the student investigates and reflects upon the context and processes of management in the work environment they observe and experience and an analysis of management outcomes.The subject contains a total estimated workload of 480 hours. On completion the student will have demonstrated the ability to apply their knowledge and skills to professional practice. |

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- The syllabus is dependant upon the area of specialisation and will be negotiated between the student and their Subject Coordinator. Each student will however:
- select a professional experience that falls within one of the specialist areas offered
- undertake a critical evaluation of the concerns, strategies and processes necessary for their experience
- undertake analysis in the preparation for, planning of and implementation of the placement
- apply a broad and coherent body of knowledge to a range of contexts in professional work and use communication skills to be part of a work team
- undertake analysis of the goals and achievements of the placement

Work Place LearningThis subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 55 days duration.
This is project based learning experience within organisations that are likely to offer employment to graduates from the Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management.
