EPT425 Professional Internship: EC Teaching (Birth-Five years)/Nursing (16)
AbstractThis is a professional service / community internship based subject. It reflects the student's chosen areas of teaching and nursing specialisation. The internship provides opportunities for the student to demonstrate self-sufficiency and independence as a beginning teacher and nurse. This subject will have close links with other final year subjects: Leadership & Management in Early Childhood and Issues in Care and Education. The internship will total 10 weeks placement (4 weeks supervised by a Registered Nurse and 6 weeks mentored by an Early Childhood teacher). |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- master the performance skills in teaching and nursing management and leadership; - fulfil personal objectives from previous professional teaching and nursing experience subjects; - engage in self-assessment of developing teaching and nursing skills and gradual induction into the profession; - assume, through demonstration of self-sufficiency and independence, the roles of a beginning teaching and nursing professional; - effectively reflect on their own practice in order to plan for and carry out ongoing professional development; - effectively respond to the needs of children within specific contexts, eg. rural children's services, aboriginal community schools in Northern Territory; - advocate for all children in a variety of contexts; - explore professional and ethical practice in a range of settings; - identify and explore current issues with professional colleagues. |

- Professional qualities of teachers and nurses.
- Learning, teaching and nursing experiences: planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Induction of a beginning teacher and nurse.
- Professionalism and ethics.
- Ethical responses through the Ethical Response Cycle.
- Child Protection Education and Training: risk, prevention, early intervention, identification, reporting and protection.
- Teaching/nursing management and leadership.
- Information and Communication Technology as a tool in the field.
- Identifying and exploring issues in the field.
- Responding to teaching, learning and nursing contexts.
- Children, families and the community. |
