ESC415 Integrating Technology Across the Curriculum (8)

Abstract

This subject examines the issues and practicalities involved in integrating information and communication technologies across the primary and secondary curriculum. Students will develop capabilities in the selection, development and use of digital learning resources and in the design of online collaborative learning activities. Students will also explore classroom management and resource issues associated with the use of technology in schools.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- plan, program, and effectively facilitate learning using information and communication technologies in various curriculum areas; - locate, evaluate, develop and effectively use digital learning resources to enhance student learning; - design and implement online learning activities involving collaboration, peer engagement, and co-creation of content; - critically assess the role of information and communication technology in schools in the context of relevant ethical issues and learning theories; and - describe strategies to address behaviour and resource management issues associated with the use of technology in a school setting.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
- learning process, curriculum, technology and learning theory; - planning for the use of information and communication technology in the school curriculum;  - development and implementation of digital learning resources; - location and evaluation of digital learning resources; - design of collaborative online learning activities; - ethical issues in the use of technology in the classroom; and - behaviour and resource management issues in the use of technology in the classroom.
