HRM561 Developing Training Capabilities (8)

Abstract

This subject provides a theoretical foundation for the core learning and development functions, and the knowledge, skills and judgment needed to apply behavioural, cognitive and adult learning theories to develop students' training capabilitites. Theories and practices in conducting training needs analysis, designing training programs, selecting and using training methods, utilising training technologies, and assessing and evaluating training activities are examined. Students are expected to integrate these theories and practices in the design and justification of a training program based on a critical evaluation of workplace needs.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to critically evaluate and design effective training programs based on the various teaching and learning theories;
  • be able to critically evaluate the training needs of a workplace through various approaches to training needs analysis;
  • be able to critically evaluate the alternative training methods, including selecting between learner and trainer centred techniques, which can be applied to training programs;
  • be able to deliver a prescribed training program integrating relevant learning and teaching theories;
  • be able to compare and contrast theoretical approaches to assessment in order to determine appropriate strategies to assess trainees; and
  • be able to compare and contrast theoretical approaches to evaluation in order to ensure the suitability of the training program.
